I’m On A Boat

Or at least, I will be. Yesterday started out like any other typical Thursday. My in ability to wake myself up when my alarm goes off coupled with my ability to engross myself in emails and other work items and therefore forgetting to actually leave and go to work. Add to this already delightful mix, the amazing draw of twitter. At least, I believe that is what had me checking out the SQLCruise website again. There were only four spots left and I had been toying with the idea of signing up. I had managed to resist and then I saw that the price for the cruise piece had dropped. Still, I had no one to go with and paying for that second empty bed wasn’t high on my list. This is how all of my evil plotting begins.

First, I had to figure out how to convince someone else to get on a boat with me and be crazy enough to share a room with me. As if that list wasn’t small enough, they also had to be as addicted to SQL as I was. That left only one person and she happens to hate boats. She throws up on boats. The very thought of boats makes her sick. A sane person would just accept this and walk away. I’m not sane though. Apparently, Kendra isn’t sane either. It took me all day but I somehow managed to convince her to get on a boat… with me…

On August 2nd, we board a carnival cruise to Cozumel Mexico. More importantly though, we will be boarding the cruise with 13 other crazy SQL addicts. What follows is going to be a training experience like no other. I’ve been to many PASS conferences and I am even registered to go to PASS this year. I’ve been to training with Paul Randall and Kimberly Tripp. I’ve been to a SQL Saturday. Yet I have never been on a boat headed to Mexico for SQL training. It will be my first time on a cruise and my first time meeting some of these fabulous people in person, even though I’ve twittered with them, read their blogs, studied their podcasts, and stalked watched them from afar at SQL events.

In an earlier post I provided my thoughts on SQLSaturday. I promised it wouldn’t be the last one I attended and I was right. In addition to SQLCruise, I also get to attend SQL Saturday South Florida. My brain is going to explode with all of the SQL goodness August promises to provide. It will make up for finally turning the big 3-0 two weeks later.
